The homepage opens faster
We spent some time on the very first thing you see. The homepage now feels immediate — covers are on screen before you'd normally notice a delay.
Covers on screen right away
The front page used to wait for the server before it could show anything. Now the first row of covers is rendered straight into the page and shown the moment it loads, with the rest filling in behind it. The lead cover is preloaded so the biggest image isn't the thing you're waiting on, and cards fade in cleanly instead of popping or flashing as the page settles.
Lighter to load
We trimmed what the page has to fetch before it can draw: fonts and the icon set are now served from us directly instead of a third party, non-essential styles load after the page is interactive, and the optional Google sign-in prompt waits until the browser is idle. Less to download up front means a faster first paint — especially on a phone or a slower connection.
