Zoo Animal

Edition excerpt from Zoo Animal (2027): **Understaffed and financially unstable, the zoo is in trouble. From the creative mind behind the Booker-nominated and New York Times notable Sabrina, comes a chilling workplace drama in the pitch of Nathan Fielder.** Mona is an ex-figure skater, haunted by her failure. Now a zookeeper, her obsessive thoughts and compulsions are slowing her down—not great news for the zoo's bottom line. Recently promoted to zoo director, Philip has inherited a myriad of problems, including a doomed aquarium project that is past due and over budget. Then there is poor Brittany, responsible for public relations. Not an easy job after a deadly attack has the animal rights activists circling. These are just a few of the folks in Nick Drnaso's ensemble cast. Behind the clean landscaping and cute-as-can-be animals—all lushly rendered in precise inks and ice cream hues—lies something quite frightening. A master observer of human behavior, Drnaso brilliantly portrays ordinary people struggling to cope within a rotten institution. Welcome to the zoo!
