Archie: 1941

Edition excerpt from Archie 1941/1955 Deluxe Edition (2027): From Eisner and Harvey Award–winning writer Mark Waid (Kingdom Come, Daredevil), longtime collaborator Brian Augustyn (The Flash, Gotham by Gaslight), and legendary artists Peter Krause (Irredeemable) and Tom Grummet (Superman: Reign of the Supermen) comes a stirring vision of Archie Andrews and the Riverdale family unlike anything you’ve seen before. In 1941, with the rest of the world plunged into World War II, the citizens of the United States calmly carry on. However, the shadow of the looming conflict still has an effect on the citizens of every town and city across the nation... including quiet Riverdale. As they push onward through the everyday machinations of their all-too-ordinary lives, high schoolers Archie Andrews and his friends Jughead, Betty, and Veronica listen as the war inches closer to home over the radio—propelling them to the point where these four friends will soon be forced to grow up faster than they expected. A unique look at America through the familiar eyes of one of comics’ most beloved characters, Archie 1941 offers a glimpse into another time through a beautiful examination of love, loss, and patriotism. This timely volume also includes Waid, Augustyn, and Grummet’s Archie 1955—the never-before-collected series portraying Archie as a musically gifted teenager who embarks on a journey of fame, fortune, and untimely tragedy at the dawn of rock and roll. Collecting Archie 1941 #1–5 and Archie 1955 #1–5.
