Synopsis
Death is only the beginning. Follow a team of unconventional Grim Reapers delivering souls between Heaven and Hell in this darkly funny, unexpectedly heartfelt supernatural workplace comedy. When overworked office worker Tamako Yoshioka collapses after a string of personal and professional disasters, she discovers she isn’t quite dead, but she’s caught in the middle of the afterlife’s most unusual delivery service. Somewhere between Heaven and Hell operates Heartful Transport Ltd., a company responsible for collecting the souls – and even the organs – of the deceased before delivering them to their final destination. Their employees, known only by numbers rather than names, are the Grim Reapers who keep the afterlife running on schedule. Among them is the stoic yet surprisingly compassionate Reaper No. 27, whose latest assignment soon spirals into a series of bizarre encounters linking the living and the dead. As Tamako becomes entangled in this hidden world, she discovers that every soul has a story, and even death can’t erase the bonds between people. Blending supernatural mystery, dark comedy and touching human drama, Great Deadful marks the imaginative debut of Kobayashi Yumio’s quirky vision of life after death.
