Synopsis
Oppenheimer meets Mad Men in this multiple Eisner Award nominated, twisted tale of science and fame gone terribly wrong. "SCIENCE IS THE NEW ROCK 'N' ROLL!"''When a writer-artist team is truly clicking, something magical can happen, and it does here. Mr. Stephenson and Mr. Bellegarde juggle multiple characters and locations—in geography and in time—yet personalities and appearances remain distinct. The creative team has also supplied realistic ephemera—personal letters, magazine covers and interviews, World Corp. logos and advertisements—that enrich the experience and fill-in the back story. Nowhere Men has a lot to absorb, and that's most welcome at a time when some comic books take only minutes to read.'' —The New York Times So said Dade Ellis, Simon Grimshaw, Emerson Strange, and Thomas Walker at the dawn of a new age of enlightenment that ushered in a boom in scientific advancement. As the research supergroup World Corp., they became the most celebrated scientists of all time. They changed the world-and we loved them for it. But where did it all go wrong? And when progress is made at any and all cost, who ultimately pays the price? Set in a world where science wins, Nowhere Men is the story of a group of scientists who usher in a boom of scientific advancement. As the research “supergroup” World Corp, Dade Ellis, Simon Grimshaw, Emerson Strange, and Thomas Walker became the most celebrated scientists of all time. They changed the world and were loved for it in the same way The Beatles were adored in the ‘60s, but like the Fab Four, their differences—including a dispute over how to handle a secret experiment gone wrong—fractures their partnership. That secret experiment comes back to haunt the company’s surviving members and threatens to change each of them in different and horrifying ways, and destroy everything they've worked to achieve. On one level, Nowhere Men is an expansive sci-fi drama that encompasses everything from cybernetics to genetic transformation and superpowers, but on the other, it’s an exploration of the love-hate relationship we have with pop idols in a complex, larger than life world based on mid-20th century futurism. An science-fiction story set in the sleek, mid-century modern world of Mad Men and perfect for fans of Chernobyl and Oppenheimer. Collects Nowhere Men issues #1-6. "SCIENCE IS THE NEW ROCK 'N' ROLL!"
