Synopsis
An aspiring journalist joins an insane tabloid that will never get him his Pulitzer-winning father's approval. But its stories are all true, and he finds family among misfits chasing cryptids, demons, angels, aliens, and deep state conspiracies.
Six million readers a week can't be wrong. For thirty years, the Weekly World News shocked America in the supermarket checkout line with front-page headlines about Bat Boy, alien abductions, angel visitations, Bigfoot's love slaves, and Elvis—alive and well, and running a crocodile farm in Tampa.
Tim Ellsrow is the son of journalism royalty—his father runs the New York Times and keeps three Pulitzers on the shelf. When Dad refuses to hire him, Tim strikes back by taking a job at the one paper guaranteed to mortify the family name: the Weekly World News. The plan: embarrass his father so badly with fake news that the old man is forced to hire him just to save the family's reputation. It's foolproof—right up until Tim discovers that every outrageous story the tabloid prints is true.
Partnered with Jenna Ritz, a conspiracy-junkie photographer famous for the blurriest Loch Ness photo ever published (and hiding a secret bigger than any front page), Tim chases assignments ripped from real Weekly World News headlines: a drilling operation about to crack the ceiling of Hell, a Nazi time machine disguised as a Florida roller coaster, a long-haul trucker who shot down a UFO full of alien zoo animals. The X-Files meets It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia in this outrageous workplace comedy about the only newspaper in America with the guts to print the truth—and with ten thousand more headlines in its archive, a bottomless supply of mutants, monsters, conspiracies, and secret histories.
Because underneath the cryptids, clones, and cover-ups, Weekly World News is a story about family: a son trying to earn the respect of a father who refuses to believe him, and a newsroom of magnificent misfits who believe everything—and will go to the ends of the Earth, or the bottom of a literal hell hole, to get the story.
